Idaho, others fear stimulus weatherization delays

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Idaho is among 13 states just approved to get federal stimulus act millions for low-income home weatherization projects, but confusion over how much to pay workers to install energy-saving insulation or new furnaces has officials leery of spending any of the money.

Idaho is due to get about $30 million in the coming two years from U.S. Department of Energy stimulus act funding for weatherization projects, in addition to the $10 million it already stood to receive from other sources, including utilities.

But since federal officials are still trying to work out new pay requirements, Idaho officials are fearful extended delays will result in less work getting done than they'd originally planned.

Christina Zamora, head of energy programs at the Community Action Partnership Association of Idaho, said Friday, "If it goes past the end of this month, it's going to be a great concern."
