Broncos - Ducks Parody Song Getting Lots of Air Play

Posted:

Boise, Idaho -- Boise State takes on Oregon in a much anticipated college football match-up Thursday.

While the hype continues to grow, a song has taken center stage. Produced at one of the local radio stations, it's getting plenty of play, and even some mentions in the Oregon media and it goes a little something like this, "Out in the Idaho town that's called Boise there is a field that's as blue as the sky." It's set to Marty Robbin's "El Paso."

In it you'll hear a tale of Ducks visiting Boise and mistaking the turf for a lake, a common misconception. The song goes on, "coincidentally the Ducks they are coming, quacking and flapping their wings and their jaws." The men behind the song work for local radio station 96.9 The Eagle. They've created this faux band, The Balding Eagles, who sing the parody "El Ducko." Their alter ego's are Blackie and Colt.

"Blackie here strained his vocal chords on Oprah like what happened to Whitney Houston so he can't sing today," said Doug "Colt" Hardy a DJ for 96.9. In reality these two characters wrote the song and then sent it off to be recorded elsewhere. Still, they managed to stay in character during our entire interview admitting that they've got some serious Treasure Valley fans.

"We've gotten calls from Yee Haw Junction, all the way up to Caldwell, tell them Blackie," said Colt. "We've gotten calls from Emmett that's kind of the core of our fan base for the Balding Eagles," said Scott "Blackie" Souhrada, program director for 96.9.

As for their influences, they're less than conventional.

"Yeah a little bit of our influence comes from Kyle Wilson, he's a big influence, he just had so many hits and we want to be just like that, Jeron Johnson as well," said The Balding Eagles.

They're so inspired they've dedicated a line in the song to those infamous hits: "Revenge for a cheap shot is driving their passion, helmet to helmet is against the law."

And although The Balding Eagles don't condone harming animals, you know how a song about birds and blue turf has to end: "And the ducks they will die."
