BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A resolution urging the Chinese government to release Democratic activist and writer Liu Xiaobo has passed the U.S. House in a nearly unanimous vote.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Walt Minnick, D-Idaho, passed on a 410 to 1 vote on Thursday, the 60th anniversary of the Communist Revolution in China.
Chinese police took Liu away Dec. 8, a day before the publication of a document he co-authored calling for more robust civil rights and an end to the Communist Party's political dominance.
Twenty-eight other House members co-sponsored the resolution.
