Nampa, Idaho -- If you haven't noticed yet, it's rivalry week in Idaho!
Fans are talking about how exciting this game could be and the long rivalry history between Idaho and Boise State. It’s mostly because Idaho is having a winning season. Which makes this upcoming match up on the blue even more intriguing.
The two teams meet on Saturday for the 38th time.
History
When Boise State became a four-year school, its first football game was against the Idaho Vandals in 1971. The veteran Vandals were overconfident and lost 42-14.
Over the years that would change. The series record currently is BSU 20 and the U of I 17. There was a 31-31 tie in 1975.
There are Broncos and Vandals fans in offices all over the Treasure Valley and, when rivalry week rolls around, the competition starts getting a little more intense.
At the Zamzows corporate office in Nampa, like most larger offices, there are fans from both schools.
“It's only the biggest game on the planet,” said Zamzows President Darin Eisenbarth.
Zamzows latest radio ad even makes light of the fact that the Zamzow family members went to both schools.
A portion of the radio ad has each family member talking about their school and finishing with, “I’m your father and I went to Idaho in the 30s. I say support em both!
Which is why this business is prone to cheer for both sides.
“My freshman year is the last time we beat Boise State,” said Boone Seal, Zamzows CFO and an Idaho graduate. It's pretty big. This year obviously its changed because the U. of I is having a way better year. The rivalry's finally renewed I think."
“The wheels fell off for Idaho in the past games, but they're the real deal this year, so it should be fun,” said Eisenbarth.
Kickoff is Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPNU. You can catch the pre-game show right here on Fox 12 at 11 a.m.
