BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A group of donors who support Idaho Public Television are mounting a campaign to try to save the network's state funding.
Friends of Idaho Public Television launched a Web site last weekend asking Idahoans to contact their legislators and members of the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee.
The committtee on Wednesday will consider Governor C.L. "Butch" Otter's proposal to eliminate IPTV's annual $1.6 million in state funding over the next four years. Otter says the network should find money from private sources.
Jerry Evans, a former state superintendent of public instruction and a Republican, is serving as the campaign's spokesman. Evans says all Idahoans, particularly those in rural areas, benefit from a solid, secure, statewide public television system.
