COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) - Foes of an internationally-focused curriculum offered in some northern Idaho schools took to the streets in recent days to publicize their cause.
Kootenai County Sheriff's office deputies had to be called - once last Friday, then again Monday - to keep protesters of the International Baccalaureate program at Hayden Meadows Elementary School from snarling traffic.
They fear the advanced studies program, offered at Hayden Meadows as well as Lake City High School, is linked to the United Nations.
In a separate event at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library earlier this week, Duncan Koler, a local attorney, told the Coeur d'Alene Press that protesters like him aren't "members of any radical right-wing organizations or left-wing for that matter."
Still, they fear the program may promote anti-American values.
