Overview

The News Producer plans and coordinates various aspects of a television newscast.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Outlines program to be produced to the news team and evaluates final scripts.
  • Composes and edits program script on a computer.
  • Coordinates various aspects of production, such as layout of the newscast, script writing, camera work, graphic elements, and timing.
  • Gives instructions to staff that develop and coordinate details to obtain the desired newscast.
  • Reviews the newscast to ensure the goals and objectives were met.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding story through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes stories according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • May monitor police and fire department radio communications to obtain story leads.
  • May edit, or assist in editing, videos for broadcast.
  • Views tapes using video equipment. Record satellite feeds using video-recording equipment.
  • Sits in production booth during show, constantly monitoring and adjusting the show as needed. Provides communication to live reporters in the field, newsroom, or on set.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to write scripts. Proper grammar and good spelling are required.
  • Must be able to speak clearly with a strong voice and good diction.
  • Must have a good driving record and be licensed to operate motor vehicles in the State of Idaho.
  • Must be flexible and able to adjust quickly for breaking news situations.
  • Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Must be able to operate under daily deadline pressure.
  • Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Know and be able to operate professional video editing equipment.

  

Credentials and Experience

  • College degree required.
  • Two years related experience or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Special Requirements

  • Willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as scheduled by the News Director or Managing Editor.
  • Expected to work well with peers in team environment.
  • Contributes story ideas.
  • May be asked to help train new employees or interns.
  • Performs other duties assigned by managers.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Must be able to see near and far and have normal color vision.
  • Must be able to distinguish sounds

Analyzes and broadcasts news received from various sources.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Examines news items of local, national, and international significance to determine selection or is assigned news items for broadcast by editorial staff.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of scripts.
  • Presents news over radio or television.
  • May gather information about newsworthy events.
  • May introduce broadcasters who specialize in particular fields, such as sports or weather, and be designated Anchor person or News Anchor.
  • Reads and edits news copy to ensure that slanderous, libelous, and profane statements are avoided or deleted.
  • May direct or participate in writing and editing activities.

Studio Crew - Part Time

Fox 12 News has immediate opening for a part time Studio Crew operator. The position is available for the  evening News (7:00pm to 10:300pm).  The duties of the job may include operating studio cameras, teleprompter, audio equipment and graphics computers. Operators are also expected to help set up the studio and prepare for the newscast. Operators are also responsible for helping keep the work areas clean. Other responsibilities include printing, copying, and distributing scripts. Other duties may be assigned by supervisors.

This position is part-time, entry level. No experience is necessary. You will be trained by your supervisors. You must be prompt and reliable. You must be able stand for long periods of time. You must be able to speak English, see and hear clearly.
