Boise, Idaho - According to a Harris poll, two out of three Americans don't know the words to the National Anthem. That's why the National Anthem Project stopped in Boise Thursday, to re-teach the Star-Spangled Banner.
Singers also competed to be named the "National Anthem Project All-Star."
One winner from each state will be awarded a $1,000 donation to a local music program of their choice and be given the opportunity to perform at a concert at our nation's capitol.
"I don't have a problem with the lyrics, remembering them. It's the octaves of the song. It's not the easiest song to sing. I have to practice the octaves, it's tough. The National Anthem is our National Anthem," said LaVergne Smith-Lee, who tried out for the contest.
Julie Bruhn with the National Anthem Project said, "We had a lot of contestants for our singing contest. We had a couple choirs, local school choirs, and lots of kids running around doing the interactive activities, karaoke, things like that."
The year-long tour will visit 50 cities across the country. Their next stop is Seattle.
