Hunger Summit Draws Hundreds

Boise, Idaho -- It's a major problem plaguing the Gem State -- hunger.  That's what brought some of Idaho's most influential leaders to the first summit on food insecurity.

The Gem State is ranked as the eighth worst hunger state in the nation.  It's that number that encouraged more than 250 people from charities, ministries and government agencies to meet and discuss food policies and programs at Saturday's summit.

"If they can identify common goals and objectives and work together on not on where they're different but where they're alike and really set common goals and hold themselves accountable, then they'll see success," said Vicki Escarra, the CEO of America's Second Harvest.

This month, Gov. Jim Risch signed a proclamation making October Hunger and Food Insecurity Awareness Month.  Both the house and the senate have unanimously acknowledged that hunger is a problem in Idaho.
