KTRV Fox 12 2007 Boise State Football Recruiting Class

2007 Boise State Football Recruiting Class

Boise, Idaho -- We now know who will join the roster of the Fiesta Bowl champion Boise State Bronco football team next year. The 2007 recruiting class includes 29 players -- 28 from high school and one from a junior college.

Linemen dominate the class with seven defensive linemen and five offensive.

The Broncos also received commitments from four linebackers and defensive backs, three running backs and wide receivers, and one quarterback, tight end and punter.

"We feel awesome about the kids. Obviously as football players, that's why we recruited them. Every house that we've been in, we have really strong feelings about these guys as people, we like their families. We're really excited to get them here and start coaching them," said Chris Petersen, BSU head coach.

The recruits come from nine states and two countries.

The Bronco faithful packed the Big Easy in Boise Wednesday afternoon, showing their support for the football team and their new players. They even got to hear first-hand from the coaches and some of the recruits during 1350 KTIK's live broadcast from the downtown hot spot. Bronco fans filled every seat in the two-story concert hall to hear all about the new BSU football recruiting class.

"It's a great afternoon at the Big Easy and I'm retired so I don't have to say that I'm in the office," said Bronco fan, John Holmquist.

No matter what they had to do or tell their boss to get here, they're here for one reason -- to learn more about the 29 players adding their names to the 2007 football roster.

"Looks like a good list. Got a great quarterback out of Washington, a guy, defensive player Billy Winn, from Nevada. Got some good guys," said Mike Webb, another Bronco fan.

"We have some good looking players, probably some of the best recruits yet," said Dave Vogel, a Bronco fan.

Petersen said during a press conference at the BSU campus Wednesday that he couldn't agree more. He says many of the recruits signed early on in the season. Others couldn't wait to sign after watching the Broncos defeat the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl.

"We know there are going to be some ramifications for next year, because really a lot of these guys we got were committed to us before the Fiesta Bowl or before our season ended," said Petersen.

Of the 25 new players, four are from the Treasure Valley.

"I think it's great. We loved that. I hope that trend continues," said Petersen.

"I think it's terrific to get some local players here. I think it's a wonderful thing. This is all positive, it's all good," said Holmquist.

"That's awesome, I'd love to see more, but we're getting some great kids out of our own valley," said Webb.

"Before they felt like they had to leave to play for a bigger program, through the process, I think they can stay here now and still play for a big name program," said Vogel.

On 1350 KTIK, The Ticket spoke with one new recruit from Florida who considered playing for Minnesota and Wake Forest, but after visiting the BSU campus knew that's where he wanted to be.

"Once I left Boise, I knew Boise was the place for me, just by the atmosphere, coaching staff, everything they had to offer. It just felt like that was the best situation for me," said Antwon Murray, a cornerback.

"When I watched the Fiesta Bowl, I was already a Boise State Bronco, committed on Dec. 10. That game had nothing to do with it, I was a Bronco," he added.

Petersen says the recruiting impact of the Fiesta Bowl probably won't be known until next year.  And as far as how successful this new class is, he says that won't be measurable for a few years, maybe not even until they graduate.

Here's a look at the list of new players and their bios:
