Boise, Idaho-- A Boise-based pet insurance company believes a nationwide pet food recall may be sickening more animals than previously thought.
Pets Best Insurance is aware of about 140 cases of animals becoming sick due to possible consumption of tainted Menu brand foods.
The company is already receiving claims from those they insure to pay for medical bills related to the massive recall.
"Once we found out how bit it was over the weekend, we set out an e-mail to all of our customers making sure they were informed of the recall and gave them instruction on how to find out if the food they have is possibly tainted," said Brett Johnson, with Pets Best Insurance.
So far, 13 cats and one dog have died from kidney problems after reportedly eating one of the 90 different brands made by Menu Foods.
