Idaho Lawmakers Mourn Death of One of Their Own

Boise, Idaho -- Idaho lawmakers are mourning the loss of one of their own, former House Representative Janet Miller.

Miller passed away Friday in her Boise Bench home at the age of 69 from a rare form of bile duct cancer. She served for four years at the statehouse and more than 40 with the Idaho Republican Party.

Lawmakers are even talking about passing one of Miller's pet projects called Susan's Law. The law would make it easier to involuntarily commit family members who are mentally ill and possibly dangerous. The law is named after Miller's sister, who was murdered by her son.

"And I think that's remarkable that when someone defeats them in a campaign has that much respect for the individual that they're doing that in remembrance for them. And I think that's a positive gesture on their part," said Rep. Darrell Botz, (R-Caldwell).

Susan's Law was passed in Utah in 2003.

It's expected to be introduced in Idaho during the next legislative session.

Memorial services for Miller will be held at the Southminster Presbyterian Church in Boise, Tuesday at 2 p.m.
