BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Scientists in Montana, Colorado and Idaho are conducting a $3.85 million research project into how a changing climate will influence wildfires. Work started yesterday on the project. Montana State University professor Cathy Whitlock says the goal is to identify how wildfires are driven by human activities and climate change.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Idaho Republican Party is criticizing a private fundraiser for Democratic U.S. Rep. Walt Minnick, though the GOP has also barred reporters from events. Idaho Republican leader Norm Semanko says Minnick smuggled in House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland for "secret meetings" with supporters - and barred media. Minnick staffers say Hoyer's trip was no secret.

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) - A Nampa man has appealed a judge's decision denying him access to the bank records of Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak. Insurance agent Bob Henry had filed a petition to force Bujak to disclose financial records on his nearly $600,000 contract with the city of Nampa. But District Judge Kathryn Stricklen ruled the financial documents aren't public records.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A Boise man has been sentenced to 17 days in jail and 200 hours of community service for piloting the boat in a Payette Lake crash last summer that killed 2 of his passengers. The Idaho Statesman reports Ronald Stevens had pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors in the Aug. 13, 2009, crash.
