Boise, Idaho -- A salmonella scare has local health officials concerned.
A number of Salmonella infections have been reported across southern Idaho since mid September.
Experts at the Idaho Health and Welfare Department believe they could be linked to undercooked chicken pot pies.
Residents are being warned to follow cooking instructions carefully -- since some frozen convenience foods are not pre-cooked.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning are serious and not pleasant either.
"Salmonella poisoning commonly can cause painful cramping and abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea -- possibly mucus in the diarrhea as well," said Hansel Ashby, a St. Alphonsus emergency physician.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning usually last from seven to 10 days and often go way on their own. The elderly and very young may need antibiotics to help fight the bacteria.
