Boise, Idaho -- The state's largest minority group is on the move.
Idaho's Hispanic population is expected to be 51 percent greater this year than just eight years ago.
The Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs released a snap shot of the state's Latino community Thursday during its annual legislative reception. The report is a compilation of the current data with specific demographic information about the growing number of Latino residents in the state.
"I would describe our population as growing very rapidly and becoming politically empowered and becoming more stronger when it comes to economic development," said Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs Executive Director Margie Gonzalez.
Thursday's reports shows there are more than 146,000 Hispanics in the state. That number is expected to jump to more than 153,000 this year.
