Boise, Idaho -- With the Fourth of July just around the corner, local animal shelters will be filling up. And if your animal gets lost during this explosive holiday we know just who you should call -- Pam Rouda, certified pet detective.
She's no Ace Ventura, but she's heard the comparisons many times before.
"I get Ace Ventura a lot. They ask if I find dolphins. A lot of people think its a joke," said Rouda.
But to her, it's no joke. This is her profession. But she doesn't do all the work by herself.
"I was called to save a life because they were going to have to euthanize four dogs that day," said Rouda.
Enter Petey, a cat-loving search dog who got a second shot at life and now has the very important job of reuniting people with their pets.
"I call them happy beginnings, because they get to start over," said Rouda.
She'd always been an animal lover, rescuing thousands of cats and dogs. But it wasn't until she lost her own cat, Tiglet, that she stumbled upon the profession of pet detective. Now she's making sure no one goes through what she experienced.
"I just went into full panic mode," said Rouda.
Stine Theede knows what it's like. During a walk with her dogs in the Owyhees, she encountered something unexpected.
"Suddenly this white stallion comes over the edge, sticks his head out like, 'hi there,'" said Theede.
The dogs freaked out and that's when Dolly, a foster dog, got loose and took off.
"I got a hold of Pam and she brought Petey out," said Theede.
It was just a matter of time before the two found Dolly. Today, she's living with her adopted family and hasn't gotten away again.
"That's what its all about," said Rouda.
