Travel Options To Poinsettia Bowl

Posted:

Boise, Idaho -- With Boise State safely secured in the Poinsettia Bowl, the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl has officially extended its game invitations.

The University of Maryland out of the ACC and the WAC's University of Nevada will meet up on Dec. 30 in Boise. Both teams finished their season 7-5. This will be Nevada's second appearance here in the Treasure Valley. They played the University of Miami in 2007. However, it will be the first time on the blue turf for the Maryland Terrapins.

The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and will be aired nationally on ESPN.

And speaking of bowls, the Broncos will forgo the blue turf this year for Sunny San Diego, and that means it's travel time for Bronco nation. Despite a slumping economy and a skyrocketing unemployment rate, Bronco fans are finding ways to make it cheaply down to San Diego. One of those ways is with some bargain basement deals offered by companies like AAA.

There's no need to pack your hats and gloves since it's a balmy 75 in San Diego. With the Broncos getting ready to take on the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, Bronco nation is dealing with a different adversary -- travel arrangements.

"The phones have been ringing steadily, which I think probably a lot of Boise State fans aren't surprised about. They travel well and I think this'll probably be another example of that," said Jim Manion, president of AAA Idaho.

They've packaged 2-day, 1-day, and air-fare only options for travelers starting around $997.00 including hotel and a pre-game tailgate.

"The basketball team is playing San Diego on the Dec. 22 the night before, so we'll go in on the day before, take the 2-day package go to the basketball game and the next night go the Poinsettia Bowl," said Don and Jody Mummert, BSU fans traveling to the Poinsettia bowl.

But if that doesn't suit you, you could always charter a private plane, or at least get a seat on one. For the second year, Henry Larson and Adam Levanger will be chartering a 737 with service to San Diego. They've got room for about 100 people and tickets cost from $995 to about $1200. It's a four-day trip with hotel included and, just to make sure everyone's decked out in Broncos colors, they're doing a blue and orange raffle on board.

"There's been a lot of interest. This morning we've had a lot of people calling us and they're just looking over the pricing and hopefully we'll get quite a few people," said Larson.

Boise State hopes to bring with them about 7,500 fans to the Poinsettia Bowl. If you'd like to get on board with the chartered 737, you can contact Henry Larson 761-2568.
