
Boise, Idaho -- A restaurant in Boise has some people upset.
The owner is having plenty of fun creating double entendres that play off the name Boobie.
David Foldesi's burger joint is named after a dog, who got its name for being an exceptionally hungry and aggressive newborn puppy. He had another name picked out but said, "The alternative name would not have been good or acceptable in any fashion."
So the name stuck.
"We saw the sign go up a couple of months ago and that concerned me, but at the last couple of months have gone by, the advertisements have become more and more offensive," said Jenny, a concerned Boise mom.
Foldesi proudly remembers his trouble making the sign.
He laughed, "It takes two hands to enjoy a Double Boobie."
And, he can't help but crack a grin as he describes his menu.
"Well we have a Single Boobie, a Double Boobie and a Triple Boobie. You really have to have a mouth for the Triple Boobie."
Right now his sign asks "What's good about a Healthy Boobie?" The only problem, to the left there's an elementary school and to the right there's another. In fact, busloads of school children travel past Foldesi's restaurant and his signage every weekday.
"I appreciate my freedom of speech, obviously, but I think there's a time when it crosses the line. When it affects kids," said Jenny.
Complaints to the mayor's hotline have already prompted three visits from a sign enforcement officer. There have been no citations issued.
Foldesi doesn't seem to mind. He seems genuinely proud of the attention he's gotten, locally and nationwide. Not to mention curious new customers.
"We saw the name, all the media carrying on about it, so we though we'd give it a try," said one diner.
In one respect, Foldesi follows the golden rule of service -- the customer is always right. In this case, even the one who complains about his name.
"We'd like to find the first one that started this and give them a free burger," he said.
He makes no apologies. When it comes to his signage, Foldesi is now inviting his customers to help him come up with more surprising slogans.
