Nampa, Idaho -- Every couple of years they go around -- a scary e-mail that makes people think twice about every day activities.
The latest one tells the story of a young man who was killed, electrocuted by a cell phone that he was using while it was plugged into the wall.
The e-mail even contains graphic pictures of his injuries and the burned room. But, local firefighters are debunking the myth, telling residents not to buy into the urban legend. Apparently this e-mail is just a hoax.
"If you look as you drive down the road everyday, everybody is on a cell phone. We're not seeing people electrocuted. People aren't dying. Unfortunately, bogus things like this happen quiet often," explained Doug Strosnider, with the Nampa Fire Department.
Cell phones in general are low voltage and covered in plastic. No one knows exactly how this myth got started. However, back in 2003 a few Nokia phones did explode because of counterfeit batteries.
