Aristotle namesNews Corp. lawyer to board

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Aristotle International Inc., which has criticized online hangout MySpace.com for its policies on sexual predators, said Wednesday that the top lawyer for MySpace's parent company, News Corp., is joining its board of directors.

Aristotle, whose products include age-verification technology, said the addition of Lawrence Jacobs, News Corp.'s senior executive vice president and group general counsel, would help strengthen communication between the companies about ways to protect minors online.

"While I am disappointed that his employer, NewsCorp, has not done more in the past to protect children from sexual predators and age-inappropriate material, Lon should be a valuable addition to our board," CEO John Aristotle Phillips said in a statement.

In February, MySpace and law enforcement officials said about 90,000 sex offenders were identified and removed from the social networking Web site.
