Idaho man charged in hit & run of 2 WSU students

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - An Idaho man accused of striking two Washington State University students with his car has been charged with two counts of vehicular assault and two counts of hit & run.

Daniel Noble of Moscow was also charged Wednesday with one count of resisting arrest during a bizarre court appearance in which he refused to sit behind his desk and then sat with his hands in a prayer-like position.

The two pedestrians, Neil Waldbjorn of Malaga, Wash., and Hogun Hahm of Pullman, each suffered a broken leg and are in satisfactory condition at Pullman Regional Hospital.

Whitman County Superior Judge David Frazier ordered Noble to undergo a mental analysis to determine if he should remain in jail as a danger to himself and the public.

Noble's attorney, Mark Moorer, said Noble's job as a financial specialist in the University of Idaho's Trust and Investment Office kept him up around the clock, so Noble drank coffee and energy drinks -- enough caffeine to potentially cause him to act out of character.

Moorer told the judge that Noble's wife said she noticed a change three days before the incident.
