Boise, Idaho -- It is not a secret -- times are tough and people are cutting back everywhere.
However, there is one buy that isn't being sacrificed: liquor. Idaho has now caught on to a new booze buying trend and is making some changes.
The bottom line is bottom shelf liquor, which is also known as value liquor. We've all seen it -- the 750 milliliter bottles of Popov or Evan Williams. Some changes by the state Liquor Division mean those value bottles will now cost you 5 percent more.
"It will pick up a little extra money, and we haven't raised those prices for a long time," said Dyke Nally, Idaho Liquor Chief. "It will put us more in line with our neighboring states, in terms of their value priced products."
The increase has only been in effect for two months, and so far there haven't been any significant changes in buying patterns. The Liquor Division says the state is hoping to see people buy off of higher shelves more often. Many times, Idaho products are in that premium range.
The increase isn't much on those value bottles, usually adding just about 20 cents. However, the state expects the new increase will bring in about $268,000 this year.
