BOISE -- Two Treasure Valley Companies teamed up to "dump hunger" and they ended up raising much more than expected.
Albertsons came together with Western States Equipment for their annual "Dump Hunger" campaign. More than 160,000 pounds of food was raised locally and nearly 600,000 pounds in five states. The Idaho Food Bank says that's a stunning five times the amount donated last year.
Western States brought two huge dump trucks to the Idaho Food Bank in Boise Wednesday to demonstrate the size of the donation. The food bank says this enormous act of charity comes at a crucial time.
"We're providing food in our network to over 100,000 people every month. So that's really a large need that we're facing and this makes a big difference in that supply," said Karen Vauk, President and CEO of the Idaho Food Bank.
The Food Bank says without this donation, they would struggle even more to meet the ongoing increase in need.
