3 blazes burn in S. Idaho, kicking off fire season

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Firefighters from the Twin Falls region responded to three lightning-caused blazes that have torched more than a square mile in the southern Idaho.

Bureau of Land Management fire officials say gusty winds - they could reach 70 miles per hour - could complicate efforts to combat these fires burning in remote country.

The 80-acre Buhl Corral Fire started around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday about seven miles West of Hollister, followed a half-hour later by the larger, 400-acre Sailor Creek Fire on the U.S. Air Force bombing range south of Mountain Home.

Then, at 4:30 p.m., the electrical storm ignited another fire east of the Sailor Creek Bombing Range that quickly grew to 400 acres.

While officials expected to have the Buhl Corral Fire under control by mid-evening, they had no estimates when the other two blazes would be under control.
