TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - Twin Falls is planning a $500,000 project to reinforce a canyon wall and prevent another landslide like one in 2006 that closed Canyon Springs Road for three days.
The Times-News reports that the basalt rock wall is cracked and eroded in places. Parts are also layered with mud, further compromising the stability.
Engineers propose driving 10- to 15-foot rock anchors into unstable areas and plastering portions of the wall with concrete fired from a hose.
City Engineer Mike Trabert Trabert says construction could be finished as soon as the fall if the budget comes through and the project begins quickly.
City Manager Tom Courtney says the project would be paid for in next year's road construction budget.
