WASHINGTON (AP) -Coca-Cola Co. spent almost $2.1 million in the second quarter to lobby the federal government on physical education funding, international tax policy and other matters, according to a recent disclosure report.
That's above the almost $1.6 million that the company spent in the year-ago period, and the $1.9 million it spent in the first quarter of 2010.
The Atlanta maker of Coca-Cola, Sprite and other beverages also lobbied on excise taxes in Pakistan, investment for a new plant in Bangladesh, obesity prevention, labels on food products in vending machines and other issues related to the industry.
The company also lobbied to support first lady Michelle Obama's campaign to get kids moving to stay fit.
The company lobbied Congress, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of State, and others from April through June, according to the report filed July 20 with the House clerk's office.
