Predicting Boise State's BCS Future

Posted:

Boise, Idaho -- After another big win on Saturday and an 8-0 record, the Boise State Broncos have cracked the top 10 in all the major college football polls for the first time this season. And most importantly, in the Bowl Championship Series standings.

"Every Monday we're reading all the polls and articles and anticipating where the team might be going," said Diana Rolig of Global Travel.

She and her team are already preparing, as much as they can, for another big Boise State bowl game.

"Right now the charters are lined up, the hotels are ready and, as soon as we get the word, we'll be ready to sell the packages," said Rolig.

And if it's anything like it was in 2006 when Boise State made the journey to the Fiesta Bowl, be prepared for mayhem.

"It was absolutely crazy," said Rolig.

But of course there's still four games to go -- two at home and two away. Winning those is imperative and, if it happens, dust off your luggage.

"I'm hearing Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl," said Paul J. Schneider of 670 KBOI and a Harris Poll voter.

He has high hopes for this team and the fans. We would need to sell 17,500 tickets, a big number, especially when the economy has seen better days. But in the words of Paul J., the excitement is there.

"It's every bit as big as it was in 2006," said Schneider. "I mean you can only have your first time once, but then you get a hunger for the second time and I think Boise State fans have that hunger."

For now it's a waiting game since we can't determine where they'll end up yet. But Thursday is going to be a big factor. Utah will play TCU.  Both teams are undefeated  with Utah at No. 8 and BSU at No. 10 in the BCS rankings. If Utah loses to TCU, Boise State could move up and become the highest-ranked non-BCS conference team.
